How to Learn All the Two-Letter Words
Two-letter words are the most useful words in any tile game. They let you squeeze a tile in next to words already on the board, often scoring in two directions at once, and they get you out of trouble when your rack is full of awkward letters.
The ENABLE word list used by this site has 96 of them.

The highest-scoring ones
Letter values make a big difference at this length. These are worth the most before bonus squares:
Played on a double or triple letter square that also forms a second word, a single X or J can score more than a much longer word.
An easy way to learn them
Don't try to memorise the list from top to bottom. Group it instead:
- By vowel. Most of the list pairs a consonant with a vowel. Go through each vowel (A, E, I, O, U) and note which consonants can sit in front of it, then which can sit after it.
- Learn the surprising ones first. Words like AA, OE, XU and JO are the ones players don't believe, and the ones that win games.
- Practise in the tool. Type your rack into the word unscrambler and set Longest to 2 under Advanced options to see only the two-letter plays.
A note on dictionaries
Different games use different word lists. ENABLE does not include QI or ZA, for example, but current official Scrabble dictionaries do. If a word is challenged, your game's own dictionary decides.
