Questions
What does a word unscrambler do?
It takes a jumble of letters and lists every real word that can be spelled with them. You don't have to use every letter, so a rack of seven tiles usually makes hundreds of shorter words as well.
How do blank tiles work?
Type ? or a space for each blank. A blank can stand for any letter. Letters played with a blank are underlined in blue and score zero points, as they do in the game.
What does the * wildcard do?
Add * to your letters to find longer words built around them. Every letter you typed must appear in the word, and any number of other letters can fill the gaps, so QZ* lists every word with both a Q and a Z. The extra letters are shown in blue and score zero.
What are “starts with”, “ends with” and “contains” for?
They are for letters already on the board. Those letters are added to the word without using any of your own tiles, so you can find words that hook onto an existing play.
How are word scores worked out?
Each word shows the sum of its letter values. Choose Scrabble or Words With Friends values under Advanced options. Board bonuses such as double and triple word squares depend on where you play, so they are not included.
What is family-safe mode?
It hides offensive words and slurs, and it is on unless you switch it off in Advanced options. The filter is deliberately strict, so a handful of harmless words are hidden too.
Which word list do you use?
By default, the ENABLE list: about 173,000 words, public domain and used by many word-game players. Turn on Show more words in Advanced options to add about 100,000 less common words from a broader English list. Neither is an official tournament dictionary, so check a challenged word against your game's own rules.
Can I share a search?
Yes. The page address updates as you type, so you can copy it from your browser and send the exact search to a friend.
